Filling a need

Providing users with timely information about new items added to the collection is an important goal for most libraries. The New Books List is a fully-automated solution for libraries using the Voyager library management system. This Perl application is easy to install and requires no maintenance once the initial setup is completed.

The New Books List's many built-in configuration options enable non-programmers to easily customize both the functionality and appearance of the application. And since the source code is provided, Perl programmers are free to add their own modifications.

Feedback received from users has led to an array of improvements and additional features. And as Voyager goes "global," so goes the New Books List. Version 5.0 allowed libraries to provide their users with a bilingual or multilingual interface Now version 6.0 is fully compatible with the Voyager with Unicode release.

Using this program

Interested Voyager libraries are encouraged to use the New Books List program which is being distributed as free software under a license from the University of Texas at Arlington. To get started, just download the newbooks distribution containing all the needed files and follow the appropriate Unix or Windows installation instructions. The User List includes links to libraries that are already using this software. If they can do it, so can your library!
