Demo Tips
- The Science & Engineering Library Books example is the best one for seeing item statuses.
- If a shelf list entry has nothing in the charge/browse data columns (as opposed to having "0"), it means that piece does not have an item record.
- Currently, the call number entry form only allows for Library of Congress classification -- normalization routines for Dewey, SuDocs, etc. are on the "to-do" list.
- Also, when entering by call number, it is necessary to select the proper location.
- Call numbers that are entered may be truncated, but you obviously don't want to truncate too much.
- The "Periodicals" example doesn't need an ending barcode/call number, since for journals a single barcode will return the whole run of that title.
- The periodicals example is also a good time to use the "call number+" option in order to see volume and year information. Call number plus information (enumeration, chronology, year, and copy number) is not normalized, so sorting breaks down.
Error Handling
You can test data validation and error handling by:- mixing barcodes from different locations
- reversing start and end barcodes and/or call numbers
- introducing a typographical error into a barcode
